The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department is pleased to announce that works by members of the Summerville Artist Guild will be on display at from March 1-25, 2023. A free reception hosted by the artists will be held at the gallery on Friday, March 3rd, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The public is invited to attend.  The Summerville Artist Guild will present its 47th Annual Judged Exhibit featuring two-dimensional works by more than 30 of its members in a variety of subjects and mediums. Comprised of artists from Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston counties, guild members from all levels of expertise will present works in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, and more based on this year’s theme, “Simple Pleasures.” Ribbons for Best of Show as well as first place, second place, third place, and honorable mentions in multiple categories will be awarded by guest judge, Mary Villon De Benveniste. Mary Villon de Benveniste has built her reputation as a portraitist on both sides of the Atlantic, painting on her family farm outside of Leesburg, Virginia, as well as at her home in the heart of Paris, France. She earned a Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon and studied life drawing for two years at the Carrousel du Louvre, Paris. Now, with a repertoire of over 300 portraits, she has been commissioned by families associated with Schlumberger, Lazard Frères, the United States Embassy, Dreyfus World Bank, Credit Lyonnais, Citibank, the Wall Street Journal, the Reader’s Digest, EuroDisney, IBM, and other multinational companies. Her work has been shown at the Salon des Independants, Grand Palais, Paris, the American Cathedral in Paris, and one woman shows at the Marymount School, and American School, Paris, in Atlanta, Georgia, the Amsley Golf Country Club and Swann Coach Inn, and the Potomac Gallery in Leesburg, Virginia. She has an extensive clientele in Surry, England, Atlanta, Georgia, Greenwich, Northern Virginia, and Jacksonville, Florida. The mission of the Summerville Artist Guild is to “bring together creative artists of various degrees of artistic development, for individual as well as group betterment, to exhibit their works, and to stimulate broader interest in the Fine Arts in the community.”  For more information, visit. www.summervilleartistguild.org. Admission is free and free street parking is available on Jenkins Avenue in front of the gallery, as well as on the adjacent streets and in parking lots close by. Gallery hours are 11:00am-6:00pm Wednesday-Friday, and Noon-4:00pm on Saturday.
